Janelle took these shots of me in Manhattan Park and this skirt is one of my favorite items in my closet. Tea length, elastic waist, and layers and layers of tulle. If you are looking for a way to be fashionable, yet comfortable this fall – an elastic waist midi/tea length skirt is just the trick. You can pair a pleated or printed skirt with a simple tank or tee, or a button down and a chunky sweater. You’ll definitely see me sporting them with booties and cropped jackets, when the weather gets cooler, the leaves start falling, and I’m crying on my walk back from work because it’s pitch black. Yeah, elastic waist skirts will be there for me. Just one step closer to wearing sweatpants all day… and total world domination.

What’s something in your closet that’s both fancy & comfortable?

There are a lot of things I am going to miss about summer, and bare legs and little dresses are definitely high up on that list.
Even though Halley lives in the city herself, Dana currently lives in Boston. So when I got the two sisters together I jumped at the chance to shoot them on the roof, with the skyline in the background. And we really hit the jackpot with these dresses. I was skeptical at first about having them both in blue – but shit was I wrong. The two dresses complimented each girl, while still complimenting each other.
There’s not much else to say as the pictures really speak for themselves. Well I guess I could say,  hello good genetics! But that would be too obvious.
Is the Little Blue Dress the new Little Black Dress?

Here is Claire’s take on the dress-layering that has been featured on the site pretty often. It’s amazing what you can do with a LBD. Claire proves that if it’s short enough (which, let’s be real, all of her dresses are), you can throw a skirt over it to give it a much different look. This purple skirt is also a wardrobe staple as it can be worn as the pop of color for an outfit – or as a neutral. Purple is a hot trend for this fall/winter so if you’ve been on the fence about the plum hue in the past – say fuck it and give it a shot.
She’s also modeled the look with both sneakers and wedges – showing both a casual and more night/going out look.
The sneakers were black & white when Claire bought them from H&M and then she took a highlighter to them like crazy only Claire can. And there is the beauty in disco high-tops.
This is definitely an outfit that, come the cooler months ahead – can be paired with black opaque tights and boots.
Will you be trying out purple or layers this fall?

Something about this crochet top and its resemblance to a doily on the back of grandma’s couch made it perfect for my little early bird dinner with Claire a couple of weeks ago.
This black cotton/spandex jumper I’m wearing underneath it is one of my best purchases from Forever21 to date. If you don’t have a tank jumper (in whatever is your color) – I seriously recommend getting one. It can be dressed up with a cardigan, chunky necklace, and heels – or dressed down with a hoodie and sneakers – but the possibilities are really endless. I should shut up before I give away all my future posts.
The bag is adorable, surprisingly roomy at times, and then utterly tiny at others. Also, it’s a real bitch to open and close when your trying to text or hold a beer…or a diet coke. whatever.
I really like pairing girly pieces with harder, edgier pieces. I’m also clearly (read: maxed out maxi) into layering things over my dresses. I get more use out of them and different looks. Also-  who am I kidding? I find an excuse to wear those fucking combat boots with anything. It’s almost sad. They have been so good to me the past two years (a gift from the bf). The close up shot was horrendous, and they are really falling apart. I’ve already brought them to the cobbler (shoe repair) to glue the sole back on. I’m so distraught I can’t even go on….
Is there something in your closet that – pun intended – should be getting the boot?

On a much brighter and lighter note – it was date-night with Claire, which inadvertently turned into an early bird special, with buffet-style ordering of appetizers, and the best key lime pie I have ever eaten.
I wish I could gush more about this pie and show you pictures of how good it looked but no sooner was it placed in front of us – it was gone. All of the food was sooo delish that there are no pictures of them at all. I guess I will have to show some self control next time.
And then there was this fantastic blue truck, and the miracle that Claire wasn’t wearing that color; since she seemed to be wearing almost every other color – like a boss. She almost makes a rainbow when she stands next to it. She seamlessly combines trends like neon and color-blocking – not to mention, her signature tinted tips.
What’s your favorite bold color piece of clothing or accessory?

A quick little weekend post. I really love getting the most out of my black maxi dress, so recently I’ve been throwing a t-shirt over it to make it more casual. It gives it the look of a maxi skirt without actually being one. The hot pink loafers are on their last leg, which I am so bummed about. But on the plus side – my denim vest has a shit tons of pockets!

What item in your closet gets the most use?

sensory overload

This post is in honor of Labor Day and not being able to wear white pants anymore, so here’s a blog with a shit ton of prints and COLORED DENIM. Also, sisters! Try not to let your head explode.

A couple Saturday’s ago, sisters Dana and Halley came to Brooklyn and we went out for lunch. I also took advantage of their fine fashion sense and asked them if I could feature them in an upcoming post. They were more than happy to help me out, and I was relieved and am eternally grateful!

Colored and pattered denim has been really trendy this summer. Wearing it can sometimes be difficult (see: mint jeggings with cellulite texture), but it’s important to not give a fuck what anybody else thinks – because in reality – ten or twenty years from now it’s probably not going to be trendy, it’s going to be outdated. And if you want to look back at your outdated trends, you’re going to want to know that you went all out with that shit.
As you can see, Halley and Dana are rocking these trends – extremely well, and they don’t give a fuck, which may be the most important part. So thank you, to two of the most lovely sisters on the East Coast for being such lovely additions to my wee little blog!

Have you rocked colored or patterned denim?
What are your thoughts on this hot trend?

So, I didn’t really plan on busting out the yellow shoes until I was well into the double-digit posts, but I figured what the heck!? I had actually wanted to save them for a much later post, sort of as a secret weapon. #yolo? I paired them with this blue skirt (mint bird print) which is so soft and light, and perfect for summer. I wore this to work but toned it down with sensible nude ballet flats, cause anybody who walks to the subway in heels is bat-shit crazy!
I got these bow-detailed pumps for a steal when I was in high school and they’ve been a wardrobe-staple ever since. I’ve worn them to both high school and college graduation (with black and white dresses), and a bunch of birthdays in between. Some items on clearance really are gems.
What’s the best thing that you’ve ever found on the clearance rack?
